Iván Zamorano, former Real Madrid striker, shared a critical assessment of Lamine Yamal's attitude and took several digs at his off-field behavior.
“I wouldn’t sign him. He’s a star, but he doesn’t represent what a Real Madrid player should be. I would sign Pedri; he’s extraordinary and does it all without making noise. He’s humble, speaks only when necessary, and that is the essence. Lamine Yamal has neither the soul nor the spirit of Real Madrid. He fits at Barça, not here. It is a different story, a completely different club. Real Madrid is a team of class and culture. Its players must reflect that. I never heard Messi say that we steal, and he was the best in the world. A 16 or 17-year-old being given so much attention for what he says… I think you need to prove it on the pitch first, and the rest will follow,” he said.
Following El Clásico, the confrontation between Lamine Yamal and Dani Carvajal sparked divided opinions across the Santiago Bernabéu. Zamorano believes the reaction from the Real Madrid captain is understandable: “I understood him perfectly. We have all made mistakes, but now it is time for Barça to live up to their motto, ‘More than a club’. They need to help guide him. If he continues like this, he will be a great player, but not one who leaves a legacy, because legends are made of something more,” he concluded during a conversation with journalist Josep Pedrerol.
