The match against Villarreal turned from a potential high point of the season into a frustrating evening for Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian appeared to have sealed the victory with a decisive goal, but it was ruled out for an earlier foul, and he was subsequently sent off. While the winger accepted that he had committed a foul, he reportedly believes the red card was excessive in light of previous incidents involving him.

Mario Cortegana of The Athletic has reported on Vinicius' reaction following the incident. According to the journalist, the player's entourage acknowledges that the dismissal may have been justified under the rules, but argues that similar situations have not always been handled consistently.

They point to an incident at Mestalla a couple of seasons ago, when Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski reportedly pulled Vinicius' hair. The Brazilian responded with a slight push and was sent off, while Dimitrievski escaped punishment.

The Real Madrid No. 7 reportedly feels that referees have developed an unjustified bias against him and that he is not treated fairly. His perception stems from what he sees as a lack of consistency, with fouls against him sometimes going unpunished while his own actions, gestures and celebrations attract close scrutiny.
