The trend of European players returning from the NBA to re-establish themselves on the continent’s biggest stages continues to grow—and this summer could see another major name make that journey home.
According to Meridian Sport, Real Madrid has joined the race to sign 31-year-old Serbian guard Vasilije Micic, who is considering a return to the EuroLeague after struggling for consistent playing time in the NBA.
Micic, once one of Europe’s most dominant players, last played on the continent with Anadolu Efes, where he won back-to-back EuroLeague titles. He was named the EuroLeague MVP in the 2020–21 season and earned Final Four MVP honors in both 2021 and 2022.
Since moving to the NBA, Micic has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Charlotte Hornets, and most recently, the Phoenix Suns. Over two seasons, he has averaged 6.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game.
In addition to his time at Efes, Micic has played for several top European clubs, including Mega, Bayern Munich, Crvena Zvezda, Tofa? Bursa, and Zalgiris Kaunas. Now, Real Madrid is hoping to add his creativity and experience to their already star-studded roster as they aim to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
