The derby between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid brought an unexpected surprise in the starting lineup from coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
Despite being a regular starter on the right flank, Trent Alexander-Arnold began the match on the bench, with club captain Dani Carvajal starting instead at the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to reports, the former Liverpool defender arrived late to one of the team’s training sessions during the week, which led Arbeloa to discipline him by leaving him out of the starting eleven for the derby.
Trent eventually entered the match in the 64th minute and quickly made an impact. He played a key role in the move that led to the decisive 3–2 goal scored by Vinícius Júnior.
After the game, the English defender posted a strong message on social media reaffirming his commitment to the club: “Madrid and nothing else.” Vinícius responded in the comments with a supportive message: “My guy, T.”
Meanwhile, Trent will remain in Madrid during the international break after once again being left out of the squad selected by Thomas Tuchel.
