Real Madrid is preparing for a significant squad overhaul this summer, with a transfer window set to bring both high-profile arrivals and key departures. Among those who could exit, Hugo González stands out as a potential NBA-bound player, with mock drafts placing him around the 14th pick. Similarly, Eli John Ndiaye has struggled to earn the full confidence of Chus Mateo and has yet to fulfill his potential. Meanwhile, Serge Ibaka’s future remains uncertain, and additional moves within the squad are not ruled out.
One of the most talked-about signings, and a player whose arrival is widely anticipated, is Theo Maledon. The 23-year-old point guard has been one of the standout performers in the EuroLeague this season despite playing for an ASVEL side that has struggled in continental competition. After an underwhelming stint in the NBA, Maledon has re-established himself as one of the year’s most exciting players, catching the attention of Real Madrid’s scouting department.
Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Maledon acknowledged Real Madrid’s interest:
"What player wouldn’t want to play for such a big and historic club, one that provides the best conditions to compete in the Final Four and win titles? Real Madrid is a club I greatly admire, and I know they’re interested in me. However, that doesn’t mean anything is finalized. In Europe, it’s uncommon for clubs to openly acknowledge their interest in a player, so when it happens, it naturally grabs headlines."
Despite keeping his options open, Maledon also commented on a possible return to the NBA:
"I’m not ruling anything out, but for now, I’m not focusing on a return, even though I’ve seen some interest. Right now, I’m really enjoying playing in Europe and experiencing how intense and competitive the EuroLeague is. I now understand why European players are having an increasing impact in the NBA."
With Real Madrid actively reshaping its squad, Maledon could soon become a key addition to Los Blancos’ future plans.
