Vinícius Jr.’s celebration after scoring the decisive goal that gave Real Madrid the advantage against Benfica did not go unnoticed by the referee. The Brazilian was shown a yellow card, putting him in a delicate situation ahead of the next stage of the Champions League.

With that booking, Vinícius is now one caution away from suspension. If he receives another yellow card in Wednesday’s clash at the Santiago Bernabéu, he would miss the first leg of a potential Round of 16 tie against either Manchester City or Sporting CP.

He is not alone. Up to six Real Madrid players are currently walking the disciplinary tightrope. Alongside Vinícius, Álvaro Carreras, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Dean Huijsen, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham are all one yellow card away from being ruled out of the next European fixture.

Of those six, only Vinícius, Carreras, and Tchouaméni are expected to start at the Bernabéu. Huijsen remains doubtful due to muscle problems, Rodrygo is suspended, and Bellingham is still sidelined.

With a place in the Round of 16 on the line, discipline could prove just as decisive as performance.
