Real Madrid's plans in the transfer market could be affected by the latest setback suffered by Nico Schlotterbeck.

According to BILD, the Borussia Dortmund defender has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left ankle, an injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the World Cup and keep him sidelined for approximately eight weeks.

The timing of the injury is particularly significant given Real Madrid's reported interest in strengthening their defense this summer. Schlotterbeck has been one of the center-backs most frequently linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, alongside other candidates such as Alessandro Bastoni and Rúben Dias.

With the German international now facing a lengthy recovery period, Real Madrid may be forced to reassess their options. The club is keen to add another central defender, but availability and fitness ahead of the new season could become decisive factors in the final decision.

An extended absence would also mean Schlotterbeck could miss a significant part of preseason preparations, something that may reduce his appeal compared to other targets who would be ready to join the squad immediately.

Real Madrid are expected to make a considerable financial investment if they decide to sign another center-back, with reports suggesting the club could need to spend close to €50 million to complete such an operation.

As a result, Schlotterbeck's injury may ultimately shift the club's focus toward alternative candidates, particularly those capable of arriving fully fit and available from the beginning of the campaign.
