Real Madrid could have a new opportunity in the transfer market regarding Nico Schlotterbeck. What once seemed like a difficult operation has reportedly taken a surprising turn, placing the Spanish club in a much more favorable position.

The defender, currently playing for Borussia Dortmund, has long been monitored by Real Madrid. His contract runs until 2027, but the club’s transfer strategy often focuses on players whose contractual situations could open the door for negotiations, similar to previous cases such as Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Schlotterbeck has reportedly halted renewal talks with Dortmund. The German international is said to be dissatisfied with both the contract terms offered and the club’s future sporting project.

These factors, combined with the player’s reported desire to play for Real Madrid, have caused negotiations with Dortmund to stall. This situation could create an opening for the Spanish giants to move for the 27-year-old defender during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Club president Florentino Pérez is well known for taking advantage of situations like this in the transfer market. Reports suggest the potential fee for Schlotterbeck could be around €40 million, possibly even less if the player continues to put pressure on his current club.

Schlotterbeck himself recently addressed the situation after Germany’s match against Ghana, denying reports that his renewal with Dortmund was close.

“I’m glad you asked because I read that in the news today. To be honest, I have to categorically deny it. Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that point yet. The situation has changed a bit, and we’re not close to finalizing an agreement,” the defender told the German press.
