Real Madrid are reportedly moving closer to signing Manchester City midfielder Rodri following a significant shift in the club's stance.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, club president Florentino Pérez has changed his position on pursuing the Spain international, with an agreement between the player and Real Madrid now said to be close. If personal terms are finalized, the next step would be negotiating a transfer with Manchester City.

Rodri is viewed as the ideal profile to strengthen José Mourinho's midfield. The Spanish international offers the composure, control and playmaking ability that Real Madrid have been seeking after identifying midfield balance as one of the squad's biggest weaknesses last season.

The report adds that Pérez's change of heart was heavily influenced by Rodri's outstanding performances at the FIFA World Cup, where he helped Spain lift the trophy after being one of the tournament's standout players.

Rodri already boasts an impressive résumé, having won the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City, the Ballon d'Or, the UEFA European Championship and now the FIFA World Cup with Spain.

Recent reports have also suggested that the 30-year-old is eager to join Real Madrid, with members of his entourage and several Real Madrid players reportedly encouraging the move. With the player's willingness no longer in doubt, attention now turns to whether Los Blancos can reach an agreement with Manchester City.
