“I shouted at Carvajal and ended up slapping him,” Ribéry admitted with a laugh. “From that moment on, Ramos and Pepe decided to make my life impossible. Every time I touched the ball, they looked at me like they wanted to kill me.”

According to the Frenchman, the match quickly turned into open warfare. “It stopped being about football and became a matter of survival. Pepe wasn’t even trying to win the ball anymore, he was just chasing me,” he said.
