The Spanish Super Cup is set for a historic edition in 2026. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has approved a significant increase in prize money, aiming to boost the tournament’s prestige and further incentivize the participating clubs.

The total prize fund will rise from €19,648,486 in the 2025 edition to approximately €23 million in 2026. While last year’s competition featured Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Club, and Mallorca, the upcoming edition will include Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, and Athletic Club.

The distribution of the funds will not be equal. Each club’s share will be determined by factors such as historical success, titles won, and television audience figures, meaning the final amounts will vary depending on each team’s sporting and commercial weight.

The previous edition sparked debate over fairness. Real Madrid and Barcelona each earned €6 million, Athletic Club received €2 million, and Mallorca took home €850,000. In addition, semifinalists were awarded €1 million, while the champion received a €2 million bonus. Athletic Club publicly called for a more balanced distribution among participants, a discussion that remains relevant ahead of the 2026 tournament.
