Real Madrid TV launched a strong criticism of the refereeing following Real Madrid’s derby defeat at the Metropolitano, once again raising the issue of what it described as double standards in decisions involving the club.

The club’s official television channel focused particularly on two incidents involving Atlético Madrid players that, in its view, could have resulted in the home side being reduced to nine men. Real Madrid TV argued that the potential impact of those decisions made it difficult to assess the match purely from a sporting perspective.

"We don't know what would have happened if Atlético had been down to nine men," they stated after the final whistle, using the incidents as the basis for questioning how the game developed and the extent to which the refereeing decisions influenced the outcome.

The criticism then became more forceful, with Real Madrid TV expressing its frustration over what it considers a pattern of decisions against the club.

“I’m sure many Real Madrid fans are eager to get up and leave this competition. It makes you want to get up and leave this competition. Now things have gotten even more complicated and the screws have been tightened. Before, they tried to cover it up, but not now. Ortiz Arias was cozying up to the Barça players a few weeks ago, and now this,” they stated.

The channel also used particularly strong language when describing its view of the situation.

“It’s all disgusting, they don’t care that LaLiga under Tebas is overflowing with crap. This season has been the last straw. All that’s missing is a directive allowing Real Madrid’s opponents to come out with guns,” they declared.

Real Madrid TV also criticised Ortiz Arias’ handling of the incident involving Kang-In Lee and Federico Valverde.

“When Kang Inn Lee tackled Fede, and Valverde got up to protest, the referee addressed Valverde with a cocky and thuggish attitude.”

The club’s media team continued by arguing that similar incidents do not receive the same punishment when Real Madrid are involved.

"There's a double standard when it comes to Madrid. They don't let Real Madrid compete. But these are the decisions of LaLiga, of the Federation…," they complained.

They then questioned whether the same incident would have produced a red card had it occurred in the opposite penalty area.

"Given how the refereeing was, I have my doubts as to whether the Atlético Madrid player would have been sent off in the other penalty area like they did with Huijsen," they added.

Real Madrid TV ultimately argued that the refereeing had such a significant influence on the match that a purely sporting assessment was impossible.

"There's no point in having a football debate."
