Real Madrid have once again voiced their frustration with refereeing decisions following their match against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu. Isidro Díaz de Mera took charge of the game, with Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz assisting him with VAR. According to Real Madrid TV, the officials' handling of disciplinary decisions was inconsistent throughout the match.
The main controversy surrounded Vinicius Jr.'s disallowed second goal, after which the Brazilian was sent off for pulling Nathan Saliba's hair. While the incident led to the goal being ruled out, Real Madrid reportedly consider the red card excessive, particularly in light of previous decisions involving the club.
Real Madrid TV addressed the incident in strong terms, with its commentators declaring: "Now it's very obvious that La Liga is rigged and corrupt,"
The broadcaster also questioned the consistency of Díaz de Mera's decisions, pointing to an old incident involving Kylian Mbappé. "You can call a foul on Vinicius , but the problem is that this same referee didn't give Carlos Romero a red card for his foul on Mbappé two years ago."
The use of VAR was another major point of criticism, with Real Madrid TV questioning why the technology intervened in Vinicius' dismissal but, in its view, failed to act in other incidents involving Madrid players.
"It's simply strange how and when VAR decides to intervene. Tonight, VAR intervened to give Vini a red card for pulling someone's hair. But why didn't VAR intervene when Kang-In Lee almost broke Fede Valverde 's ankle ? Why? That's the question, why?"
