Thibaut Courtois was initially expected to return during April, but his comeback has now been delayed. It had already been confirmed that he would miss matches against Atlético Madrid, Mallorca, and Girona, where Real Madrid collected only 4 points out of a possible 9, significantly damaging their La Liga title hopes. He was also unavailable for the first leg against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu, which ended in a narrow defeat. His absence, however, is set to continue for several more weeks.
According to Diario AS, Courtois’ official return will not take place until May. As a result, the Belgian goalkeeper will miss the remaining fixtures in April, a period in which Real Madrid will attempt to keep their slim La Liga chances alive and continue their Champions League campaign, beginning with the second leg against Bayern Munich if they progress.
In Courtois’ absence, Andriy Lunin will remain the preferred choice in goal for Álvaro Arbeloa.
