Real Madrid continue working on defensive reinforcements for next season, although a difference of opinion has reportedly emerged between José Mourinho and the club's hierarchy regarding the profile of the next signing.

According to journalist Látigo Serrano, Mourinho remains determined to add another center-back to his squad and has made it clear that his preferred option is a left-footed defender. Among the names under consideration, Alessandro Bastoni is said to be the coach's top choice.

The Italian international is highly valued for his quality on the ball, defensive reliability, and ability to operate on the left side of central defense, attributes Mourinho considers important for strengthening the back line.

However, the operation faces a significant obstacle. Following the recent investment made to sign Marc Cucurella, Real Madrid are reportedly reluctant to commit another major fee to a defender. The club's leadership considers the estimated €70 million required for Bastoni a substantial outlay, particularly after already strengthening the defensive unit this summer.

Despite the uncertainty, the Inter Milan defender is reportedly keeping his options open while monitoring developments from Madrid. According to the report, Bastoni has received two attractive offers from Premier League clubs but has yet to make a decision regarding his future.

The defender's priority is believed to be a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, although everything will depend on whether Real Madrid decide to proceed with an operation that currently raises financial concerns within the club.

With the transfer window still open, the situation remains unresolved as Mourinho pushes for his preferred target while the club weighs the sporting benefits against the financial investment required.
