Éder Militão is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The Brazilian defender has been out of action since early December, when he suffered a tear in his left hamstring accompanied by proximal tendon damage. More than two months later, the center-back has returned to training with the ball as he steps up his recovery.

His absence left Real Madrid’s defensive line severely weakened. With Antonio Rüdiger also sidelined and David Alaba unavailable, then-coach Xabi Alonso was forced to improvise with limited options. The problems extended beyond central defense, as the full-back positions were also affected. Valdepeñas stepped in for the suspended Fran García and Carreras, while Fede Valverde covered for the injured Trent and Dani Carvajal.

This was not Militão’s first setback of the campaign. In November, he picked up a right adductor injury that ruled him out for two matches. He now continues a rehabilitation process that initially projected a recovery period of three to four months.
