Real Madrid is set to announce its next reinforcement following the signing of Italian forward Gabriele Procida: Chuma Okeke. The Spanish giants have already reached an agreement with the 26-year-old American player on a two-year deal. As with many recent arrivals, negotiations were marked by the inclusion of a buyout clause that would allow Okeke to return to the United States—an increasingly common feature in Real Madrid’s contracts, also seen with Hezonja, Procida, and Maledon.
Standing at 6'7" and of Nigerian descent, Okeke arrives after a turbulent few years in the NBA, where injuries and limited playing time hampered his development. However, this past season in the G League, he regained momentum, showcasing his athleticism, rebounding strength, and defensive versatility. Though not a consistent threat from beyond the arc, he can score in transition and operates well in open space—traits that align with Madrid’s need for a more physical, defensive-minded power forward to complement Mario Hezonja.
With the possibility of signing Alec Peters falling through, Real Madrid pivoted toward Okeke, whose profile balances the roster without straining the budget. Like Procida, he comes on a modest salary, preserving financial flexibility for the club’s next target: a perimeter player to further complete the squad.
