Real Madrid has taken a decisive step to secure one of its brightest youth prospects for the long term. Jesús Fortea, a standout performer in the club's U19 team under the guidance of Álvaro Arbeloa, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029—three years beyond his original deal, which was set to expire in June 2026.
The move not only protects one of Valdebebas’ most promising talents but also sends a clear signal: the club sees Fortea as the natural successor to Dani Carvajal at right-back. At just 18 years old, the Valencian defender is expected to move up to Real Madrid Castilla next season in the First Federation, bypassing the third team and continuing under Arbeloa’s leadership.
Fortea has been a key figure for Arbeloa’s squad this season and even caught the attention of Carlo Ancelotti, participating in multiple first-team training sessions. Although he didn’t make his official debut under the Italian coach, the arrival of Xabi Alonso presents a fresh opportunity. Both Alonso and Arbeloa have played a crucial role in convincing the young talent to commit his future to the club.
Several clubs, including Como, showed interest in Fortea during the winter transfer window. Real Madrid's swift action ensures he won’t be tempted away, especially with the possibility of being part of the squad that competes in the upcoming Club World Cup. While Xabi Alonso is set to begin training with the first team on June 9, he is already well-informed about Fortea and the rest of the academy talents thanks to Arbeloa’s input.
