The midfield has once again become one of Real Madrid's biggest challenges, with attention now turning toward the winter transfer window. According to Mario Cortegana and Guillermo Rai, members of José Mourinho's coaching staff believe one of the factors behind the team's struggles is the absence of the creative midfielder the Portuguese coach requested during the summer. Various sources within the club and among the players reportedly share the same assessment.

The derby at the Metropolitano once again exposed the issue. Real Madrid have midfielders of considerable quality in Tchouaméni, Valverde, Camavinga, Bellingham and Arda Güler, but they continue to lack a player capable of controlling the tempo, organizing the build-up and directing the team when opponents increase the pressure.

Mourinho explored several solutions, including alternatives such as Bernardo Silva, Güler and even Trent in central positions. However, the feeling remains that the role of a playmaker requires specific qualities that cannot be provided by just any player.

January could therefore offer Real Madrid an opportunity to address an issue that was not resolved during the summer. The club traditionally avoids major signings in the middle of the season, and there are currently no indications of advanced negotiations for any player. Nevertheless, more voices are now suggesting that Real Madrid could enter the market for another midfielder.

José Félix Díaz has also suggested that it would not be surprising if the club signed a midfielder during the winter. Mourinho requested a creative player months ago, and following the team's recent struggles, that request is increasingly being viewed as a need within Real Madrid.
