Florentino Pérez wasted little time in delivering on one of his campaign promises after being re-elected as Real Madrid president, confirming José Mourinho as the club's new head coach.
The Portuguese manager returns to the Santiago Bernabéu 13 years after the end of his first spell and has signed a three-year contract running until June 30, 2029. His new deal mirrors the length of his previous tenure at the club, which lasted from 2010 to 2013.
Mourinho arrives after Real Madrid agreed to pay Benfica €15 million to secure his release. According to the report, the amount was determined by a clause in his contract with the Portuguese club.
The report also states that the presidential election had a direct impact on the final cost of the operation. Real Madrid had previously been able to secure Mourinho for €3 million during a loan period, but that option expired one week after the conclusion of the Portuguese league season, increasing the total fee to €15 million.
