As expected, Mario Hezonja's departure from Real Madrid has become increasingly complicated. The club is reluctant to facilitate the Croatian forward's exit, arguing that although he informed them on June 20 of his intention to leave when his NBA buyout clause expired, he neither confirmed a destination in the league nor paid the $1 million buyout fee required to terminate his contract. More than a week later, that payment has still not been made.

According to Marc Stein, this is the reason why Hezonja's agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers, reached on Sunday, has yet to be officially announced. The NBA franchise reportedly intends to sign the forward to a one-year, $2.8 million contract, but Real Madrid continues to oppose the move while Cleveland works to complete the necessary procedures.

The situation has become even more intriguing following a report from Sport24, which claims the Cavaliers could waive Hezonja shortly after signing him. That scenario would make him a free agent, allowing him to negotiate with any club. European sides such as Dubai Basketball and Olympiacos are reportedly monitoring developments closely in case an opportunity arises.

Despite Real Madrid's efforts to keep him, Hezonja appears determined to end his time at the club. Given the tense circumstances surrounding his exit, combined with the controversy that also surrounded his future two years ago, a return to wearing the white jersey now seems virtually impossible.
