Real Madrid have publicly expressed their support for Kylian Mbappé and strongly condemned the racist and xenophobic remarks made about the striker by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla.

In an official statement, the club voiced its "strongest rejection" of the comments, describing them as "unbecoming of a political representative," while reaffirming its support for Mbappé.

Real Madrid also highlighted that the French forward is "a role model for millions of people, and especially for children around the world."

The statement concluded by reaffirming the club's commitment to ensuring that "racism, xenophobia, and violence are eradicated forever."

The controversy followed Paraguay's 1-0 defeat to France in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, with Mbappé scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot.

After the match, Amarilla, a senator from the Authentic Radical Liberal Party, published a series of social media posts targeting Mbappé with racist and offensive remarks. She referred to him as a "colonized Cameroonian, pretending to be tough as a Frenchman, resentful, nouveau riche, arrogant, and ugly," and also wrote that he should have been given "a good slap" after the match.

In another post, she added: "Brute, he didn't even learn to write, instead of breast milk he sucked coconuts, and the most educated thing he ever heard was chimpanzees. You should have given him the finger, Orlando Gill, I do it in the Senate and nothing happens."

Mbappé later responded through his social media accounts, criticizing the senator and condemning her comments.

"You do not represent Paraguay, a country that has exuded passion and honor throughout the entire competition," he wrote.

He concluded: "I will never allow people like her to have the freedom to spread their hatred and racism throughout the world."
