Former Real Madrid president Ramón Calderón has strongly criticized Florentino Pérez’s plan to reshape the club’s corporate structure, warning that the proposed changes could unleash “a cataclysm” at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Speaking on Directo Gol only days before this weekend’s Ordinary General Assembly, in which members will vote on the 2024-25 financial accounts, Calderón questioned the reasoning behind a future Extraordinary Assembly that Pérez has called to present a radical new ownership model.

Although Pérez maintains that the reform will “reinforce members’ control over economic assets,” Calderón dismissed that argument as empty. “You cannot keep claiming that this is to make the club belong more to its members. The club already belongs to its members,” he stated.

He also suggested that the real motive lies in the escalating cost of the Santiago Bernabéu renovation, insisting that “the stadium’s accounts have gotten out of hand.”

Despite Real Madrid recording 1.185 billion euros in ordinary revenue and a 24 million euro post-tax profit last season, Calderón believes that long-term financial pressures have pushed Pérez toward this restructuring.

Calderón also addressed the future of Vinícius Junior amid ongoing contract negotiations, encouraging the Brazilian to remain at the club. “It is very cold outside. He is in the best team in the world,” he said.
