Spain began the decisive phase of qualification for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with a commanding 4-0 victory over Slovenia, in a match strongly influenced by players connected to Real Madrid.
Daniel Yáñez opened the scoring from the penalty spot after winning the foul himself. Aguado doubled the lead after finishing an assist from Rivas, while Diallo and Hugo López completed the dominant performance.
Much of Spain’s play revolved around Thiago Pitarch, who dictated the tempo and controlled possession throughout the match. The level of the tournament appears to suit him well, and his influence was evident from start to finish.
During the international break, Pitarch’s name had even been mentioned as a potential call-up for Spain U21. However, with qualification for the European Championship at stake, the decision was made for him to remain with the U19 side.
The momentum around Pitarch continues to grow. Spain face a demanding group that also includes Finland and Netherlands. The mini-tournament runs between March 25 and March 31 in Benidorm, with matches played every three days, and only one team securing qualification for the 2027 European Under-19 Championship.
Coach David Gallardo has once again placed his trust in Pitarch, a player he previously worked with during the FIFA U-20 World Cup and one who has emerged as one of the most exciting performers of the season.
