Nico Paz has become a priority move for Real Madrid, not only because of his sporting potential but also due to the financial implications surrounding his future.

The Argentine midfielder has made a major impact at Como, attracting strong interest from several clubs. Reports indicate that offers exceeding €60 million could arrive for the young international. This situation is precisely why Madrid are now expected to activate their €9 million buy-back clause.

At the moment, Como owns 50 percent of Nico Paz’s rights. If the player were sold directly from the Italian club, both teams would split the transfer fee. For Madrid, that scenario would mean giving up tens of millions of euros if a major transfer takes place. By bringing him back, the Spanish club would regain full control of the player’s rights and guarantee that any future sale benefits them entirely.

The plan is clear: Madrid intend to bring Paz back next summer and then assess the situation. The club will evaluate whether the midfielder has a place in the first team or whether his rising market value should lead to a future transfer. However, regulations prevent a player from being bought and immediately sold in the same transfer window through what is known as a “bridge transfer.” Because of this rule, if Madrid activate the clause, Paz would start the season with the club before any possible sale could be considered in a later window.

According to Transfermarkt, Nico Paz’s market value has already reached around €65 million. When he left Madrid’s academy setup in July 2024, he was valued at €10 million, meaning his price has risen by roughly €45 million in less than two years.

The sporting side of the decision will depend on several factors beyond the player’s quality. Competition in his position is strong, with players such as Brahim Díaz, Arda Güler, and Jude Bellingham occupying similar roles in the squad. The identity of the coach for next season will also play an important role. Álvaro Arbeloa knows Paz well from the academy and previously showed strong trust in young players, promoting him during his time working with Madrid’s youth teams.

The player’s own opinion will also be significant. At Como, Paz enjoys a central role and consistent playing time, something that could be more difficult to guarantee at Real Madrid. That search for greater prominence was one of the reasons he left Ciudad Real Madrid in 2024.

Despite the uncertainties, Real Madrid believe the operation strongly favors them in every scenario. For nine million euros, they could secure a player capable of shaping the club’s future or a talent whose transfer would bring a massive financial return.
