Real Madrid continues to be linked with José Mourinho as the leading candidate to take charge of the team next season. According to reports from Portugal, the coach could potentially arrive alongside one of Benfica’s key defenders.
The report claims that António Silva is one of Mourinho’s preferred targets should he return to Madrid. The defender has already been linked with Real Madrid in recent months as the club searches for reinforcements in central defense.
At 22 years old, António Silva has already established himself as an important player for Benfica and the Portuguese national team, earning 20 international appearances. The center-back is considered one of the most promising defenders in European football.
According to A Bola, the player would welcome the possibility of joining Real Madrid. The same report suggests the Spanish club sees Silva as both an immediate solution and a long-term investment for the defense.
However, any potential operation would require a major financial effort. While Transfermarkt currently values the player at around €28 million, Benfica would reportedly demand a figure closer to €60 million to consider a sale.
The ongoing presidential election process at Real Madrid is also expected to influence transfer decisions. No major move is likely to be finalized until the elections are resolved, with the timeline depending on whether Florentino Pérez faces official opposition candidates.
If no rival candidacy emerges, the process could conclude within a couple of weeks rather than extending over a longer period.
