José Mourinho addressed the Negreira case and the refereeing decisions Barcelona received during his first spell at Real Madrid in an interview with El Chiringuito. Asked about payments made to the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees, the Real Madrid manager responded with irony.

"When I was here, I already suspected something was up."

Mourinho then referred to the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the case and compared the situation with the Calciopoli scandal in Italy.

"The Negreira case is in the courts, let's see what the courts say. I felt something was off; I didn't know the name, I didn't know who Negreira was. But it was strange. A few years later, it's clear that it wasn't strange at all; the only thing I find strange is the justice system. They did the same thing in Italy with Calciopoli."
