Kylian Mbappé opened up on multiple topics during his appearance on Universo Valdano, addressing everything from Real Madrid’s recent derby defeat to his long-awaited arrival at the club.

Reflecting on the loss, Mbappé admitted it was a tough moment for the team: “It was a difficult game. Nobody expected that outcome. Even when you’re leading 2-1, you don’t expect to concede four more goals. It was hard for all of us, but we must keep moving forward. We can’t forget what happened, because remembering it will help us grow and avoid repeating the same mistakes. They came to play a derby, and so did we — but without enough intensity in the duels or crosses. They won every battle, and that made it very difficult to win. We lost rhythm and control, and what happened, happened.”

The French superstar also looked back on one of the most defining decisions of his career — choosing PSG over Real Madrid in 2017, when he left AS Monaco at just 18 years old.

“When I left Monaco, I was very clear that I wanted to play,” he explained. “Real Madrid already had Benzema, Cristiano, and Bale. I didn’t want to sit on the bench. Every club told me I would play, but I knew Madrid, with all due respect, couldn’t give me that guarantee. Of course, I dreamed of playing here, but being a starter is a privilege. Staying in Paris, my home city, was an incredible opportunity. Seven unforgettable years — playing where you were born is something truly special. But I always kept that dream alive… and last year, I fulfilled it. I’m very happy.”
