Mbappé, Vini Jr., Bellingham, and Cucurella were among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, presented by France Football during the award's 70th edition. Mbappé finished second behind Kane, while Bellingham ranked 11th, Vini Jr. placed 17th, and Cucurella finished 18th.
The winner was announced during a gala at the London Palladium. The award was decided by an international jury of specialist journalists, with one representative from each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings.
The nominees were selected based on their performances during the 2025/26 season. Mbappé enjoyed an outstanding campaign, finishing as the top scorer in both LaLiga, with 25 goals, and the Champions League, with 15. He then represented France at the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot with 10 goals and becoming the tournament's all-time leading scorer.
Vini Jr. and Bellingham also impressed on the international stage, scoring four and seven goals respectively at the World Cup. For Real Madrid, the Brazilian recorded 22 goals and nine assists last season, while the English midfielder contributed eight goals and two assists.
Cucurella, meanwhile, joined Real Madrid from Chelsea after playing a key role in Spain's World Cup triumph.
