The judge investigating Barcelona's payments to former Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) vice-president José María Enríquez Negreira has rejected Real Madrid's request to extend the investigation for another six months.

However, the case will remain open for now, with two witness testimonies scheduled for November.

According to a ruling accessed by EFE, the head of Barcelona Court of Instruction number 1 rejected Real Madrid's request, which was also supported by the Prosecutor's Office. The investigation was due to expire on September 1.

The judge is investigating the €7.3 million paid by Barcelona to José María Enríquez Negreira and his son, Javier, between 2001 and 2018. She considers it "not necessary" to extend the investigation despite the fact that two witness testimonies are still pending.

Former Barcelona footballer and reserve-team coach Gerard López, along with the reserve team's delegate, Antonio A., are scheduled to testify in November.
