Fede Valverde left the pitch at Camp Nou with discomfort after pushing himself to the limit during Real Madrid's victory over Barcelona. The club captain was forced off in the closing stages of El Clásico and underwent initial medical tests after returning to the capital.
Real Madrid have been given a few days off before beginning preparations for their next match against Racing Santander. Meanwhile, the club's medical staff are monitoring Valverde's condition to determine the extent of his discomfort.
Fortunately for both the player and the club, the initial assessment suggests there is no serious injury. According to The Athletic journalist Guillermo Rai, preliminary examinations have ruled out a significant problem, although further tests are expected to confirm the initial findings.
Valverde's availability for the match at El Sardinero therefore remains uncertain but possible. The Uruguayan has the rest of the week to recover and establish whether he will be fit to feature.
