Dean Huijsen has spoken openly about the refereeing controversy surrounding the latest Madrid derby. The Real Madrid defender discussed several of the match's most disputed incidents, particularly Kang-in Lee's tackle on Fede Valverde, which the Technical Committee of Referees later acknowledged should have resulted in a red card for the Atlético Madrid player.

Speaking to OKDIARIO, Huijsen expressed his confusion over the lack of VAR intervention: “I don’t understand it, honestly. I don’t know why it doesn’t come in. It could be a refereeing error, a human error, but what’s the point of having VAR then?” The Real Madrid defender believes VAR should be used precisely to correct situations in which the referee fails to properly assess an incident on the pitch.

Huijsen was also asked about another controversial moment from the derby, Cuti Romero's tackle on Jude Bellingham. The Spain international was clear in his assessment, saying he also believed the challenge warranted a red card. His comments add to the debate surrounding the refereeing decisions that influenced the match.

The defender also expressed hope that the refereeing mistakes involving Real Madrid were simply errors: "We want to believe it's just a coincidence." His comments come after several days of controversy and the CTA's public acknowledgment of the error in the incident involving Kang-in Lee and Valverde.
