Luka Modric could be approaching the final chapter of his playing career, with reports suggesting the Croatian midfielder is considering retirement after the World Cup.
The veteran midfielder is currently participating in what is expected to be his final major tournament with Croatia, a national team he has captained during the most successful period in its history.
Although AC Milan are reportedly interested in keeping him for at least another season, the final decision rests with Modric. According to the report, the midfielder has doubts about continuing his career, particularly after one of his conditions for staying was the opportunity to play in the Champions League, a competition Milan failed to qualify for after finishing fifth.
Should Modric decide to retire, Real Madrid are said to already have plans for his future. The possibility of the Croatian returning to the club in a non-playing role has been discussed for months, and Fabrizio Romano reports that Florentino Pérez is keen to bring him back.
The Real Madrid president reportedly sees Modric as a valuable addition to the club's sporting structure once his playing days come to an end.
According to the report, the Croatian legend is open to the idea and could begin a new chapter at Real Madrid as part of the club's sporting management team.
