Florentino Pérez has launched his election campaign with a giant banner displayed near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

The image features the current Real Madrid president alongside the slogan “Much history to be made” and references the seven cities where the club won Champions League titles during his presidency: Glasgow, Lisbon, Milan, Cardiff, Kiev, Paris, and London.

The campaign move immediately drew comparisons with Joan Laporta’s famous banner from December 2020, when the Barcelona president placed a large image in Madrid with the message “Looking forward to seeing you all again.” Florentino’s banner is located close to the one used by Laporta, although not on the same building, and sits even nearer to the Bernabéu.

The use of this type of campaign strategy is being interpreted as another sign that Real Madrid’s presidential race is officially underway. Enrique Riquelme is expected to challenge Florentino Pérez, meaning club members could soon be faced with choosing between the two candidates.

Florentino’s campaign message clearly focuses on his achievements at the club, highlighting the seven Champions League titles won under his leadership.

It was also confirmed on Saturday that the Real Madrid Electoral Board unanimously approved Florentino Pérez’s candidacy.
