Enrique Riquelme continues to advance his Real Madrid presidential campaign while gradually revealing details of his sporting project, although he insists that no names will be confirmed for now as he focuses on shaping his plan for the club’s members.
Speaking on El Partidazo de Cope, the candidate expressed concern over Real Madrid’s absence from the Spanish national team squad.
“Real Madrid doesn't have a single player on the Spanish national team. To me, that seems... in the 16 World Cups that have been held, there have always been Real Madrid players. And as a Madrid fan, I'm pissed off, but there's a solution,” Riquelme said.
He then revealed one of his key promises if elected president.
“If I'm president of Real Madrid, there will be a Spanish player at the World Cup who will be from Real Madrid.”
Riquelme had previously stated that he has two major signings already agreed, and now hinted that one of them is Spanish and part of Luis de la Fuente’s 26-man World Cup squad.
The presidential candidate also offered insight into his coaching plan, without revealing names.
“He’s not available,” he said, indicating that his chosen coach is currently employed by another club.
He later added: “We secured the coach before the candidacy,” explaining that the groundwork for his sporting project was laid before officially entering the race.
According to Riquelme, the idea was to first ensure a viable project before presenting his candidacy to the public.
