Carvajal is back. Nearly 70 days after undergoing surgery to remove a loose body in his right knee, the full-back has started his gradual return to the group and took part in part of today’s team training session. This step forward in his recovery keeps alive his chances of being included in the squad for the Spanish Super Cup.
The news comes as a major boost for Xabi Alonso, who has been without a natural right-back for over a month. Trent, who was injured on December 3, has only recently returned to pitch work, leaving Real Madrid without specialists on the right flank. As a result, the coach was forced to improvise in the last five matches, deploying Valverde against Manchester City and Alavés, Asensio against Celta Vigo and Sevilla, and academy player David Jiménez against Talavera de la Reina.
Carvajal’s return offers relief for a position that has been plagued by setbacks in recent weeks. His presence will ease the wait for Trent’s full recovery, stabilize a defense affected by injuries, and allow Valverde and Asensio to return to their natural roles. Valverde can once again strengthen the midfield, while Asensio provides cover in a central defense that is currently short on options.
