Another setback has emerged for Álvaro Arbeloa. Álvaro Carreras has suffered a muscle injury in his right calf and will miss the upcoming Champions League clash against Manchester City. The Real Madrid full back picked up the problem after a heavy challenge during the match against Getafe more than a week ago, an issue that will ultimately keep him out of the European fixture.
Carreras had already been unavailable for the match against Celta Vigo due to an accumulation of yellow cards. In that game at Balaídos, Ferland Mendy stepped in at left back and is now the leading candidate to start against Manchester City.
Current expectations suggest that Carreras will also miss Wednesday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and the upcoming league fixture against Elche on Saturday. His availability for the second leg of the tie at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain.
