Bernardo Silva's role at Real Madrid has diminished significantly since the start of the season. The Portuguese midfielder arrived at the club expected to become an important figure, but his playing time has dropped sharply. Since September 12, he has accumulated just eight minutes on the pitch, rising to 15 minutes when his appearances for Portugal during the international break are included.

José Mourinho had already suggested during pre-season that Bernardo was not yet at his best physically, although he expected the midfielder to reach an optimal level within a few weeks. However, his situation has not improved as anticipated, leaving the player with limited opportunities despite his potential to help Real Madrid improve their build-up play.

Mourinho's message appears clear: Bernardo will need to improve his physical condition if he wants to earn more minutes. Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni currently seem to be ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, while Eduardo Camavinga is also seemingly a more attractive option for the Portuguese coach.

Bernardo's chances of playing in a more advanced role also appear limited, with Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler competing for those positions. The midfielder will therefore need to raise his level and convince Mourinho that he deserves a more prominent role in the team.
