In his post-match press conference at the Reale Arena, Xabi Alonso avoided prolonging the debate over Huijsen’s sending-off but made his stance clear.
“I don’t want to dwell on the red card. I’ve already given my opinion; it was a yellow, not a red. It conditioned the game,” said the Real Madrid coach when asked again about the controversy.
Although his team secured victory and remain unbeaten, the San Sebastián native could not hide his frustration with referee Gil Manzano. Alonso protested the decision during the match, demanded explanations at the final whistle, and left visibly angered by the officiating.
